Death's Door Tasting
Death's Door Spirits was founded as a way to preserve and promote small scale farming on Washington Island, Wisconsin. Consequently it has emerged as an exciting line of handcrafted spirits. Working with two varieties of hard red winter wheat grown exclusively on Washington Island, distillers Brian Ellison and Nick Quiat produce Death's Door Vodka, Death's Door Gin and Death's Door White Whiskey. The sourced winter wheat was granted their USDA Organic certification in 2009. Since hitting the market, the resulting spirits have been garnering praise and recognition from spirits aficionados and slow food advocates alike.

Laguedoc-Rousillon Tasting
This Friday we had a special representative from the Sud de France wine initiative pouring for us. The Languedoc-Roussillon region produces a wide range of wines including whites, reds, roses, sparkling and still as well as naturally fortified wines. With their distinctive character, marked by the generous terroir and the exceptionally sunny climate, Languedoc Roussillon wines reflect the land on which they are produced. Representing some 30 appellations, from everyday wines to the finest vintages, Sud de France wines all have in common the fact that they are both accessible and yet true to their own character.

Vintage Tasting
Paulo from Vintage is back. We will share a great red, white and rosé from the Frenchies. The white and the rose hail from southern France and the red is a treat from the famous French winehouse M. Chapoultier's Australian endeavor.

On the palate a fresh fruitiness is apparent with the development of a pleasant acidity and minerality, the latter derived from the unique character of the geology.
Amethystos Red
Red forest fruits, particularly raspberries and black currants, mingle with sweet vanillin oak notes from barrel maturation.
Amethystos White
A cracking aromatic dry white made using the winning Bordeaux blend, Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc, with a touch of the local Assyrtiko grape.
Liberty Tasting
Adrian from Liberty returned with two fruity crisp whites, a sauvignon blanc from California and a Vernaccia from San Gimigiano, and a lovely perfumed Chianti. Two of the selections come from Le Rote Vineyards, a Small Vineyards Import. The family produces a tiny amount (around 2,500 cases total) of exceptionally good wine. Vernaccia is one of Italy's most historic whites (the first to be elevated to DOC), and San Gimignano's mainstay, so half of all production is devoted to this classic. The other focus, importantly, is Sangiovese the main grape in all Chiantis. Le Rote's terroir and microclimate rival that of nearby Chianti Classico.

Smooth, black-cherry and sweet tobacco linger on a faint, pleasant finish that is touched off by just the right hint of oak. Lovely.
Murphy Goode The Fume Sauvignon Blanc
It boasts a citrus, tropical flavor profile, which results in glorious blend of texture, bright notes of grapefruit and hints of tangerine.
Concha Y Toro Tasting
This week we had three beautiful 90+ point rated Chilean wines from Concha Y Toro. Their Marques de Casa Concha line always delivers amazing wines at down to earth prices. These single vinyard wines reflect the great progress in Chilean grape growing and wine making. Come and taste what the buzz is all about.

Paolo from Vintage came back to show off three new Italian selections. We tasted two fantastic picks from the mountains of Alto Adige in Northern Italy and a beautiful classic Tuscan Chianti loaded with crushed violets, dark berries and a touch of cocao.

Ricasoli Brolio Chianti Classico
Recalls mature fruits like black cherries and blackberries on the nose, with hints of chocolate. Full, round and structured on the palate, with toasty hints and sweet tannins.
Gruet Tasting
Gruet is a delightful sparkling, unexpectedly from New Mexico. We had it on offer for a taste, along with the Gruet Rosé. For a complement, we also had a Bergerac.

The Hess Collection vineyards represent the diverse growing conditions seen in the Napa Valley. They are known for over-delivering value for the price. Come in to try out three of their offerings.

Aromas of ripe tropical fruits. This medium bodied wine is layered with flavors of nectarine and pear and has a zesty citrus finish.
Hess California Cabernet Sauvignon
Black cherry, chocolate and caramel aromas. The palate reinforces cherry and currant. The tannins are present but ripe and round and lead to a persistent finish.
Hess Lake Country Sauvignon Blanc
It begins with floral and citrus aromas, which yield on the palate to flavors of white peaches, pineapple and lemon grass in a medium-bodied, easy drinking style.
Pellegrini Vineyards Tasting
Another of Long Island's best, Pellegrini Vineyards had selections to taste this weekend. Located in Cotchogue, the sunniest town in New York State, with climate and annual rainfall parallel to Bordeaux, France, they are graced with a 220 day growing season. Vineyard management, techniques and winemaking methods are employed in complete service to the fruit.

Wonderful aromas of black cherry, plum and blueberry intermingle with notes of vanilla. Nuances of black cherry develop on the finish.
Pellegrini Cabernet Franc

Vitner's Pride Finale Bin 1333
This lush "ice" wine is produced by pressing gewurstraminer & sauvignon blanc grapes while still frozen. It is richly aromatic with notes of citrus & honey-suckle.

Riesling is an incredibly versatile food pairing varietal.
