Athenee Importers Tasting
Athenee Importers swung by to share three fabulous Greek delights with us. We had two yummy great value wines from the Harlaftis estate which is considered today to be one of the most respected Greek Wineries - A luscious white made with the Savatiano grape variety and a juicy medium bodied red made from the popular versatile Agiorgitiko grape.
The star of the weekend was St. John Commandaria: The historical sweet desert wine. Harvested grapes are spread out in the sun to dry until their sugar density reaches 19-23 Baume. Once achieved, the grapes are crushed and fermented until the process stops naturally due to the high sugar content. The must is then aged in oak barrels for a minimum of two years. Similar to the solera system, the barrels are never completely emptied. New juice is added to the barrel containing old juice and the process begins again.
Featuring:
Harlaftis Athanassiadi White
Made from the Savatiano varietal, which they bring in from growers in the villages of the northern slopes of mount Pendeli.
Harlaftis Athanassiadi Nemea
Produced from the grape variety Aghiorgitiko, which is cultivated in the vineyards of the Harlaftis family in Nemea.
St. John Commandaria Sweet Wine Cyprus
A sweet wine with a powerful bouquet filled with dried fruits, spices and oak. It is luscious and full-bodied.
Down Under Tasting

You will love the two tasty wines brought up from Kiwiland - a delicate Sauvignon Blanc and a lush earthy Pinot Noir. Pinot Noir is a great match for almost anything you might find on a traditional Thanksgiving table. The real special guest of the weekend is a sparking Shiraz from the Aussies. This is the down under sparkler of choice during their Turkey Day and once you taste it you'll know why. It's fantastic!

Vampire Vineyards Tasting
Rumor has it that the Vampire Vineyards are actually owned by a circle of vampires, and the company’s founder, an entertainment attorney from New York, is actually just a front. We do know however that after satiating themselves for years with their Transylvanian blood of the vine, the powers that be decided to spice things up and migrate westward like so many vampires before them.
Thus, we had succulent wines from Sunny (ouch) California. Smooth and well rounded,
with forward fresh fruit – that have been aged in both French and American Oak Barrels. Sip the Blood of the Vine and enjoy!
